Award-winning upgrade and refurbishment of Sydney Town Hall
The award winning upgrade and refurbishment of the Sydney Town Hall combined structural innovation and major services installations all within the confines of one of Sydney’s most recognizable and important buildings. The major aspect of this project was a 5.5 metre deep excavation under Town Hall requiring exceptional technical attention, along with a major roof refurbishment.
The 5.5 meter excavation required massive temporary steel trusses and underpinning works to be installed to support the building prior to the excavation work commencing. The excavation in-ground, which was once part of Sydney's first cemetery, was subject to comprehensive archaeological investigation. Refurbishment of the existing roof included the replacement of slate tiles, new lead flashings and waterproof membranes to concrete roof slabs. The works involved the unobtrusive installation of fire sprinklers and other services into the building.

"Under Business Manager Alf Marrocco the contractors did an amazing job on a highly complex project. At one stage they built a temporary steel trussed bridge to support the floor of Centennial Hall while they worked on the lower Town Hall. There was no movement. It was a safe worksite and only one day was lost, the job was completed to program despite the unanticipated conditions and problems you get in an old Building. Congratulations and thank you to them!"
Clover Moore MP, Lord Mayor of Sydney
"The people who are working there have ownership of what they are doing, they have pride in what they are doing, and they love what they are doing, and in the building game, that is something that is quite rare."
Russell J Lloyd, Sydney Town Hall, City of Sydney Project Director
"From the senior management down they considered the management of the work and the pressure the guys were under, and they did the right thing, and this gained the respect of the guys on-site. The team framework was really good and this is the point of difference to other builders. The outcome is a credit to you and a testament to the calibre of the staff engaged during the works."
Ron Turner, Superintendent - City of Sydney
Belmadar delivered a great result for Sealy of Australia’s New South Wales factory and office refurbishment in 2012. The Belmadar team completed the project efficiently, whilst recognising Sealy’s operational requirements, which continued throughout the duration of the works. Belmadar’s project management was of a high standard, with Sealy’s expectations being exceeded on what proved to be a 'showcase' build.
Simon Dyer, Managing Director, Sealy Asia Pacific
They achieved the budget by providing innovative and smart solutions that were sympathetic to the overall design and what Coca Cola were trying to achieve. Ultimately this helped us to realize our goals for the site and CCA staff. We met our budget targets and have an exceptional building for our staff and visitors to enjoy.
Grant McClean, Coca Cola Amatil, Project Director
I found Belmadar to be a low-maintenance builder; always pro-active in providing solutions or alternatives methods in order to meet the client’s requirements. Their entire team were approachable and communicated the clients brief to a dedicated team of subcontractors. All of this resulted in a high quality finished product.
Juha Havukainen, Farrell Coyne Projects
When your reach the end of a project, and all parties sit back with admiration of the works completed, have high respect of each other’s roles played on that project, and have a client that is literally beaming with pride, you know you’ve been triumphant. This is only possible with a builder that is willing to do what it takes to reach this position. I would have no hesitation in recommending Belmadar for any project they would wish to tackle. I am would be happy to answer any queries, and more than happy to walk any future/potential client through our last completed project - A picture tells a thousand words, walking through and experiencing a space - tells more...

It is with utmost honour and respect that I recommend the heritage conservation services of Belmadar. In the last 12 years, I have met with and closely worked with Mr Alf Marrocco on various heritage projects in and around the Sydney metropolitan area and further afield in NSW. As a conservation and heritage architect, I have come to appreciate the dedication, thoroughness and high level of competency insofar as the conservation of heritage fabric is concerned.
