This significant project, commissioned by Inner West Council, will see the iconic and much-loved Dawn Fraser Baths undergo a major redevelopment.
Since being built in 1882 the heritage-listed baths have been widely used by the local community, particularly Australia’s oldest active swimming club – the Balmain Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club.
The baths are the oldest remaining example of a fully enclosed tidal pool in Sydney Harbour and are named in honour of the club’s most famous member, Olympian Dawn Fraser.
Designed by TKD Architects, the project will see the baths’ central pavilion and boardwalk raised 1.25 metres to accommodate rising sea levels, in addition to the construction of new recycled timber pavilions, amenities, kiosk, and lighting towers.
Having previously completed the council’s award-winning Emanuel Tsardoulias library, designed by TKD Architects, we are excited to once again partner with IWC and TKD in preserving this important structure for generations to come.
