This major project for Club Central (Illawarra Catholic Club) comprises the refurbishment of the existing club and a new three-level club extension constructed on the site of a demolished adjoining building. Above the three new club levels, a five-storey, 124-room hotel plus rooftop terrace will be constructed, complete with five levels of basement parking beneath. As a central social hub for the local area, patrons will be able to enjoy the upgraded club’s new 210-seat restaurant and extended gaming areas, along with an expanded function area with a capacity for up to 600 guests. Works included the removal and replacement of the existing external combustible cladding. These works were completed with a specialist subcontractor engaged in incorporating an abseiling crew, which eliminated the need to erect scaffolding around the current club perimeter and impede Public Domaine Access and Facilities. The services integration between the existing and new building structure, with essential services such as mechanical and fire required to operate off the existing building infrastructure. For which the operation of the existing building remained unaffected while carrying out the new works and connection, with ‘Out of Hours’ work required including Good Friday, which was the only day of the year that the club is closed for business.
