The project entailed extensive alterations and additions to an existing building to create a new heritage centre for the Sisters of Charity in Potts Point. Designed to showcase the Sisters’ work since arriving in Australia from Ireland in 1838, the three-storey structure also features a repository for religious relics, lift, boardroom, staff offices and kitchen.
Site works included major structural demolition, reinforced concrete structure, brickwork to match existing, new services throughout and a glazed link to the adjoining St Vincent's College school.
With an extremely tight footprint, the site had no space for materials storage and limited street access, which particularly impacted truck delivery capability.
Following demolition of half of the existing building, the remaining half had to be stabilised and secured, while new services were installed to meet the specific temperature and humidity requirements for storage of religious relics.
Despite the constraints posed by a very tight site footprint, the client was highly satisfied with Belmadar’s work on the project, including our extensive coordination with the adjoining St Vincent’s College school.
